Who are Family Matters?
Family Matters was established in 1990, originally created to address the growing need for specialised support for survivors of sexual abuse and rape in Kent and beyond. Since its inception, the charity has expanded its services to include one-to-one therapy and a dedicated support line.
Over the years, Family Matters has grown into one of the largest specialist providers of therapy for survivors in the UK. Its mission remains to offer confidential, free, and accessible services to individuals of all ages and backgrounds, providing a safe space for survivors to heal and rebuild their lives.
The charity is built on the foundation of ensuring survivors have the support and resources they need to navigate the trauma of abuse, and it continues to evolve and expand its services to meet the needs of the community.
You are not alone
Sexual abuse and assault can leave lasting physical and emotional scars, requiring time, compassion, and skilled support to heal. Family Matters is committed to providing specialised, empathetic assistance to both children and adults navigating these complex challenges. Speaking with one of our counsellors, who is trained in trauma-informed care and experienced in sexual abuse recovery, can make a transformative difference in the healing journey.
Our counselling practice is supported by a team of dedicated professionals with extensive training across a broad range of therapeutic disciplines. We address issues including physical abuse, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, trauma, bereavement, and self-esteem. Through an approach grounded in expertise and empathy, our goal is to help each individual find a clear path toward resilience, recovery, and renewed well-being.
