Placements with Family Matters

Our counselling placements are an excellent opportunity to work with people who have experienced the trauma of sexual abuse and rape. You will be working within a supportive, non-judgemental, welcoming team who are there to support you with your development as a therapist.

Placement structure

We will ask you to commit to your clients for a few hours per week, your placement will last for 12 months with the option to continue for longer. Once we’ve assessed your application, we may invite you for an interview. Please note, if you are successful, we will arrange for you to have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

All placement counsellors will need to attend a mandatory one-day induction day and two-day training course, which is an extension to your current training. This will look in more detail at how to support client who have experienced sexual abuse and rape.

Placement Feedback

“Support from management and excellent supervision has been outstanding. When I've been struggling and needed support and advice, I've never felt judged and someone has always been there meeting my needs. I couldn't have wished for more. The other thing I love is the chance to meet with other counsellors through social events and training, that has been amazing and so beneficial. Being and feeling part of the team since day one has seen me as a person, my confidence and skills grow. I can't recommend FM enough, if this is an area you'd like to work in, you'll definitely be looked after, supported, and appreciated here.” – Louise, counsellor on placement
